What began as a nine-year-old’s obsession with Saturn’s rings and the Moon’s craters slowly blossomed into a lifelong love for the night sky and a burning need to share its beauty with anyone who would look.

In 2020, while the world paused, I decided to push further. I started experimenting with my smartphone, curious whether a simple phone camera could really capture the cosmos. With patience, a bit of luck, and a lot of trial and error, the Moon suddenly appeared razor-sharp on my screen. Saturn and Jupiter followed (fuzzy at first, but unmistakably there). I remember rushing to show friends and family: “Look what you can do with just a phone!”

That spark turned into a deep dive. I devoured every tutorial, guide, and forum post on smartphone astrophotography. I finally learned to properly collimate the telescope my mom had bought me in fifth grade and figured out how an equatorial mount actually works. Before long, I was ready for the real challenge: a deep-sky object far beyond our solar system.

One cold, crystal-clear night, I pointed the scope at Orion’s sword, held my breath, and hit record on the phone. When the image resolved on the screen, I was speechless.

This is the Orion Nebula, shot with nothing more than my smartphone piggybacked on that same childhood telescope. No fancy gear, no big budget; just a kid’s dream come true, and one unforgettable night under the stars.
